Niharika Bhargava grew up in Delhi, did Masters in Marketing Strategy and Innovation from London. Then she worked in a multinational company, with a good package. After that she left the job within a year. In 2017 she started getting interested in entrepreneurship and she decided to come up with pickle startup.
Today she owns a farm of approximately 50 acres,in which she grows all the required elements which are used in different types of pickles . The farming in practice is concentrated in the concept of organic farming More than 30 tonnes are produced every year. Last year, her company’s turnover was Rs 1 crore.
The 27-year-old Niharika earned a Masters degree in Marketing Strategy and Innovation from London in 2015 after graduating from Delhi University. After that she came back to India and started working in a multinational company in Gurgaon. Niharika says, ‘I always wanted to start my own business but, I wouldn’t have thought of pickle startup my father was fond of making pickles, he prepared pickles and gifted pickles to the relatives. There was a lot of demand for hand made pickle.
She says, ‘One day I told my father why you don’t do business of this. Then he replied that now you have to do it further. I liked the work but its business would run or not there was some doubt about it. Because pickle is prepared in almost all houses.
Niharika then started researching the pickle market. Talking to many people, it came to know that the demand for pickle prepared at home and pure is very high. There are a large number of people who do not like the pickle of the market, they buy it under compulsion. What was it then? He turned his father’s passion into his profession and started learning to make pickles from him. She says that we have not taken any training from outside to make pickle, it is only Papa who has taught me. I am still learning. We constantly are doing research and experiment on how pickles can be made better and healthy.
Currently, Niharika is doing organic farming on 50 acres of land. In which they grow everything from fruits, vegetables and spices, which are used in making pickles. They do not use anything in the market. She does not get synthetic vinegar or any preservatives in her pickle. Instead of ordinary salt, she uses rock salt so that the throat of the people is not spoiled.
She currently sells more than 50 varieties of pickles. Among them, mango and jaggery pickle are most in demand. It contains jaggery instead of sugar. Along with this, she also sells items like spices, oil, sauces, chilli powder.
Currently, she employs 15-20 people in his team. Of these, 13 people work in Khajuraho for farming and pickle preparation, of which 10 are women. The rest see marketing and packaging work in Gurgaon.
