Houston ready to welcome PM Modi for ‘Howdy Modi’ event

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address more than 50,000 people—mostly members of the Indian diaspora—in Houston on Sunday at an event called “Howdy, Modi!”

The term ‘Howdy’ is a shorthand for “How do you do?”, used commonly in southwestern United States.

This is PM Modi’s first US tour after a new term. He will address the UNGA – United Nations General Assembly here. He will then participate in the mega show before taking part in UNGA. More than 50 thousand people are expected to participate in this show. In this program, US President Donald Trump will also call PM Modi howdy Modi. The White House has also confirmed the arrival of Trump.

Within three weeks, all 50,000 tickets had been claimed — roughly 8,000 of them Modi fans traveling from outside the Houston area. More than 5,000 people are now on the waiting list. The event will be shown on Indian TV channels in both the U.S. and India.
