Narendra Modi inaugurates the first multi modal terminal constructed on River Ganga

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated an inland port in Varanasi on the Ganga River as part of the centre’s push to develop inland waterways, starting with the stretch of the river between the Uttar Pradesh holy city and Haldia in West Bengal for navigation of large vessels.

This is the first of the four multi-modal terminals being constructed on the River Ganga dubbed the National Waterway-1 as part of the World Bank-aided Jal Marg Vikas project of the Inland Waterways Authority of India.
